Raden Saleh, Prince of Java (WIP)

Feature animation

Raden Saleh (1811 – 1880), was the pioneer of modern painting in Indonesia, he sailed to Europe as a teenager to study painting with the Netherlands Kingdom as his sponsor, this is considered an anomaly in the relationship between colonizer and the colony. In the 23 years of his journey in The Netherlands, Germany, and France, Raden Saleh managed to get into the circle of the aristocrats, artists, and intellectuals of Europe at that time by introducing himself as the prince of Java, on the other side he also struggles from the racism that makes him got alienated in a foreign place.

His background as Javanese noble mixed with western knowledge makes him a cosmopolitan who produces unique works and ideas that are important to be discussed.

We work with Peter Carey and Werner Krauss as the researchers and history supervisors for the development process of this project.
